Every year, May 15, Nakba or Catastrophe Day is commemorated with protests and marches in Palestine and other parts of the world. Israel expelled more than 800,000 Palestinians from their homes.

70% of the Palestinians dispossessed of their land became refugees in other countries and the rest became internally displaced.

The more than 800,000 became more than five million Palestinian refugees who are prevented from returning to their lands, according to the United Nations (UN). Of the 60 million refugees in the world, Palestinians represent 44% of the number.

Currently, the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip is approximately 2.1 million people. However, due to the conflict in the region with Israel, the population has fallen by 6% in the past year, with around 160,000 people dying or fleeing.

According to the most recent reports from the Ministry of Health, from October 7, 2023 to May 2025, more than 62,000 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli attacks.

Among the victims, it is estimated that more than 17,492 were children. In addition, there are more than 111,000 injured and around 14,000 under the rubble.
