The Child Jesus Mission was created on December 23, 2009 by the Supreme Commander, Hugo Chávez. This mission is responsible for meeting the medical needs of mothers, newborns, girls and boys in response to the demand for care that was forgotten by the fourth-republican governments, rescued women's hope of becoming mothers and increased the chances of achieving a better quality of life.
The Mission was created with the purpose of developing immediate strategies that would guarantee the life of the mother-child duo. The main idea was to invest resources in the adaptation of delivery rooms, operating rooms and hospitalization areas. That is, the full service of labor action.
The profound social meaning of the Bolivarian Revolution responded to the need to address the problem of early pregnancy, abortion rates, and newborn abandonment, and initiated various programs within the framework of the Child Jesus Mission, such as shelter homes, differentiated care services for adolescent girls and the fertility service, in order to also offer specialized care and support during the periods of preparation, during childbirth and postpartum.
