In 1996, this day was decreed at the Second Via Campesina Conference, in Tlaxcala, Mexico, in honor of the Massacre of Eldorado dos Carajás, in Brazil, where at least 19 people from the Landless Movement (MST) were killed by the military police.

Currently, there are multiple associations, movements and organizations around the world that seek to improve the living and working conditions of this sector, which makes so much effort in its daily work.

Rural men and women in Venezuela are the protagonists in the construction of the new economic model for the integral development of the Homeland and food sovereignty.
