On April 22, 2009, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) declared International Mother Earth Day, with the objective of making people aware of protecting the planet.
However, its origin took place in the 1960s, when 20 million people took to the streets to demand greater protection of the environment.
In Venezuela, efforts have been made to contribute to Mother Earth, including the creation of the Tree Mission and the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC).
“Let us be able to make this Earth, not the grave of humanity, let us make this Earth a sky, a sky of life, of peace, of brotherhood for all humanity, for the human species,” said Commander Hugo Chávez during the 15th UN International Conference on Climate Change in 2009.
In addition, the Homeland Plan is the political testament left as a legacy by Commander Hugo Chávez, and whose purpose lies in the desire to accelerate the transition to socialism and the restoration of power to the people. It stands out for its integrative and structurally ecosocialist content.
