Every January 6, the National Sports Day is celebrated in Venezuela.
This celebration dates back to 1945, when Father Francisco Castillo Toro, pastor of La Pastora in Caracas, called for this date at the time, a funeral in memory of the players Salvador Arguellez and José Pérez Colmenares, which is the current name of the Maracay ball stadium, the latter member of the team named “Heroes of 41” who won the world amateur baseball championship that year.
Later, the date became customary for athletes, who unwaveringly and constantly continued the tradition until the National Sports Institute (IND) decreed that it should be a tribute paid at the national level, forming part of the interest of the Venezuelan people.
In Venezuela there are countless outstanding athletes: Yulimar Rojas, Deyna Castellanos, Rubén Limardo, Salomón Rondón, Daniel Dhers, among others, who continue to stand out in the name of the country.
