On July 25, 1976, he was assassinated by the repressive organs of the fourth republic, the revolutionary and social fighter Jorge Rodríguez, a leader who fought against the ignominy of a ruling elite at the service of North American imperialism.

Born on February 16, 1942, in Carora, Lara state, Rodríguez trained as a teacher and later joined the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), specifically the Faculty of Humanities, where he had student management responsibilities, one of them as a delegate of the University Council in 1966.

Creator of the Socialist League, this revolutionary leader dedicated his life to the fight against the criminal acts of which he eventually became a victim: persecution, disappearances and political assassinations by the governments of the fourth republic.

According to research led by anthropologist and historian Pedro Pablo Linárez and a large working group that dealt with the subject, there were at least 3,000 politically persecuted, disappeared and murdered in this era when the dark forces seized Venezuelan territory with the support of imperialism.

Among the most emblematic cases are that of Jorge Rodríguez, arrested on July 25, 1976 by the Armed Forces Intelligence Service (SIFA) and transferred to a lonely spot on the Pan-American Highway, where he was tortured.

After being taken to a dungeon, he died of internal effusions, organ detachment and numerous fractures resulting from beatings.

That is why Venezuelans raise the flags of this tireless revolutionary, and give continuity to the struggle that Jorge Rodríguez waged to achieve a more just society, only possible in Socialism.
