The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, offered a new assessment this Tuesday on the earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that hit the country on June 24; in this regard, he stressed that both the frequency and intensity of secondary movements are decreasing.
Rodríguez urged the population to maintain a preventive attitude and maximum prudence in the face of the current seismic situation, urging citizens to be “attentive to all the information that we can officially give them” during the development of the contingency.
He also specified that the change in the frequency of earthquakes represents positive progress on the ground, stating in a textual way that “the fact that the frequency of aftershocks has decreased is good news, but it is not definitive news”.
Rodríguez concluded by warning that the same institutional caution must be applied to the reduction in the “average magnitude of these aftershocks”, so that technical and scientific monitoring teams will continue to be active on a permanent basis.
