On March 15, 2008, Commander Hugo Chávez officially launched the José Gregorio Hernández Mission from the Municipal Theater, in honor of this servant of God.
“We had called it Misión Vida but it was such a name that it came up in the streets but since I said life is everything, education is life, health is life, housing is life, life encompasses everything, we are going to look for a more specific name and it occurred to me it was in the middle of the flight, I don't know where we came from, I said already, and I consulted because I didn't want to make the decision right away, I made several inquiries, so here, the name pleased and here it is, José Gregorio Hernández, the town's doctor, José Gregorio Hernández, I remembered my grandmother, my grandmother Rosa Inés asked José Gregorio Hernández to put candles on him, and he is a saint for our people.”
The Doctor José Gregorio Hernández Mission is characterized by bringing house-to-house medical care to people with physical, motor, intellectual, visual and hearing disabilities, whether acquired or inherited, in order to promote public policies aimed at ensuring the comprehensive protection of the revolutionary State.
“This mission has a set of objectives, it already has a set of achievements, it is extraordinary what has been achieved, but now we are going to move forward on the whole front and deepen the struggle (...) starting today, we are all fully joining this mission so that not a single compatriot is left without specialized care and there a program of social inclusion,” said Chávez.
It is worth noting that the José Gregorio Hernández Mission was on the front line of combat with the objective of counteracting COVID-19.
