On January 9, 1898, Julio Garmendia, a Venezuelan writer, journalist and diplomat, was born in the town of El Tocuyo, Lara State, who stood out for his texts that, between realism and fantasy, reflected the essence of the Venezuelan people of the 20th century, who were torn between the rural and the nascent metropolises.
His works include the Doll Store, a story that dates back to 1927 and which is considered to be the introduction to fantastic realism in Spanish-American literature.
It wasn't until the 1950s that the work of this illustrious Venezuelan began to be valued, who published more than a dozen short stories and was a diplomatic representative in several missions in Europe. Garmendia died on July 8, 1977 in the city of Caracas.
