July 5, 1811 marked a crucial milestone in the history of Venezuela, when seven of the 10 provinces of the Captaincy General proclaimed their independence from the Spanish Crown.
This act marked a break with the monarchy and laid the foundations for a new nation based on republican and federal principles, promoting equality between individuals.
The Venezuelan Congress formalized this independence, making the country the first Spanish colony in America to emancipate itself and establish a Republic.
This process was driven by the revolutionary movement in Caracas, which, after refusing the appointment of a Spanish governor in 1810, began the War of Independence and the creation of the First Republic.
215 years after that important event, the flame of independence is still burning in Venezuela, with the Bolivarian Revolution setting the course for its consolidation.
