On March 15, 2002, the poet, singer-songwriter and composer, Luis Mariano Rivera, died, who stood out for his songs where between verses and harmony, the beauty of the human being and nature stood out.

He was born on August 19, 1906, in the town of Canchunchú Florido, Sucre state. From humble origins, he grew up in the midst of the fishing culture that prevails among the inhabitants of the rural peninsula of Paria, where, after being orphaned, he found himself in the need to work with his father, so he became part of the high number of children who in rural Venezuela at the beginning of the 20th century increased the statistics of school dropout.

After long years of work, adventures and misadventures, at the age of 38, he decided to resume his elementary school studies, to improve his reading and writing, which after achieving them he combined his vast experience and love for the land to compose unparalleled prose that, between verses and stanzas, draw the essence of a Homeland and its people.

Today, 22 years after his death, the people honor the memory of this distinguished Venezuelan who continues with his song and love, reflecting the beauty of a country and a people that, inspired by his love and perseverance, irrigates his fragrance of joy like flowers.
