The swimmer Manuel Díaz set an absolute national record in the 200-meter combined individual, during his participation in the José Finkel Trophy 2026, in Brazil.

The Venezuelan representative stopped the stopwatch at 1 minute, 55 seconds and 42 hundredths, a record that exceeds the mark he himself had of 2:01.06 by 5.64 seconds to become the new national reference time in the short pool test, with a distance of 25 meters, according to the press release of the Ministry of Popular Power for Sport.

The new brand adds to Díaz's outstanding performance at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, where he won several medals.

In the Dominican Republic, he won the gold medal in the 100 meters butterfly style, with a time of 52.45 seconds.

In addition, he won silver in the 200-meter butterfly recording an official time of 1:58.07 in the grand final, escorting Guyanese Noel Raekwon (1:56.82)

He also won the bronze medal in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay with 3:19.69 minutes. In this event, Trinidad and Tobago won gold (3:16.91) and Mexico won silver (3:18.06).
