The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, stressed that the institution works with more than 80% of its own income, which allows it to support the execution of works and finance the projects approved in the National Popular Consultation.

“We work with more than 80% of our own revenue, so we can say that we have an efficient mayor's office, which is there daily in contact with taxpayers so that we can have a budget that guarantees projects to our people,” he said during the presentation of the Political-Administrative Management report of the Mayor's Office of Caracas.

Meléndez explained that, every quarter, the mayor's office must have three million dollars, calculated at the current exchange rate, to guarantee the resources allocated to the projects selected by the communities.

“If we multiply those three million by four quarters, that's twelve million that we must progressively set aside to comply with the president's instruction to finance the second project in each territory. Caracas set the example and will continue to set an example,” he said.

He noted that there was an increase of 276% compared to the initially approved budget, which allowed local investment capacity to be strengthened. When presenting the funding source sheet, he highlighted that 19% corresponded to the revenues of the National Executive, while 80.29% came from his own collection. “We had our own income of 16 billion bolivars,” he said.

Meléndez recalled that, in addition to the consultation projects, the mayor's office assumes commitments in each territorial visit. “What we don't solve in real time, we plan for the short, medium and long term. This is how we repair CDI, schools and carry out large works because we have revenue,” he concluded.
