Minister Garcés: The runway at Simón Bolívar Airport is fully rehabilitated and operational

The Minister of Popular Power for Transportation, Francisco Garcés, reported that after the work carried out, the runway at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía in the state of La Guaira is fully rehabilitated and operational.

During an interview with VTV, Garcés explained that the runway suffered severe damage as a result of the earthquakes of June 24. “The earthquake fault passed through there, cracks opened up, which were worked, studied and were able to be injected, compacted, and repaired and today it is operating properly,” he said.

In this regard, he asserted that there is interest in different international airlines operating in Venezuela, so in the first half of next year, it is expected to recover the airport in its entirety.

He estimated that the country could close the year with more than 60% of the total connectivity that existed before the earthquake, because part of the air supply has been temporarily redistributed to alternative airports.
