More than 400 people participated in a lunar observation day in Mérida

As part of the initiatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MINCYT), the Center for Research Foundation for Astronomy and Applied Technologies (CIDATA) held a day of scientific dissemination in Plaza Las Heroinas in the state of Mérida, as part of the International Moon Observation Night.

The science outreach teams of the institution and the National Science Seedbeds Program served more than 400 people, including boys, girls and adults, who between 5:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., contemplated the night sky with the naked eye and through smaller telescopes deployed on site.

According to a press release, the head of CIDATA's Science Dissemination Department, Ángel Díaz, highlighted the opportunity to share with the community the direct observation of the natural satellite in its waxing phase.

“The public answered the call to observe the Moon this day, they asked questions and enjoyed a pleasant activity, learning a little more about our natural satellite. The sky finally cleared and the Moon could be observed,” said Díaz.

During the day, attendees took a closer look at the details and reliefs of the lunar surface. In this regard, the young Gilao Carrillo, from the state of Táchira, valued the experience after observing the Moon for the first time through a telescope: “It was great”, while the participant Yocasta Romero said: “It was a spectacular experience. It looks great, I loved it.”
