The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) kicked off its annual summit in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, at an event scheduled to last two consecutive days. The meeting between allied leaders begins in the midst of a climate of marked prudence and obvious discrepancies over the strategic agenda of the transatlantic bloc.

During the first debates, delegations deepened their differences over the continuity and scope of financial and military support for Ukraine. In the same way, the demand to increase national defense budgets reopened the discussion between partners who advocate accelerating spending and those facing economic restrictions.

Added to this scenario are the questions raised by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the members of the alliance. The president once again pressured European nations to assume a more responsible role in financing and collective security.

According to reports presented by journalist Alex Piñón, the talks are continuing in the midst of intense bilateral meetings in Turkish territory. The summit will test the cohesive capacity of the military bloc to reach minimum agreements on burden-sharing and the alliance's position in the face of ongoing conflicts.
