On March 11, 1946, Noel Gregorio Rodríguez Mata, a student leader who fought against false puntofijist democracy, was born in Nueva Esparta.
He was a member of the Youth of the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR), studying Civil Law at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV).
He was also in the Red Flag Party under the leadership of Américo Silva, Gabriel Puerta Aponte and Carlos Betancourt, where he was a member of the underground during the government of Rafael Caldera in the early 70s.
On June 29, 1973, the minions of Caldera, Armed Forces Information Service (SIFA), arrested Noel Rodríguez in Caracas, which resulted in a forced disappearance.
Almost 40 years of searching by family members, on January 19, 2013, the Attorney General's Office announced the discovery of his remains in a niche in the General del Sur cemetery in Caracas.
Investigations showed that Noel was ill-treated, tortured to death.
78 years after his birth, this young victim of pointfixism, Noel Rodríguez, is remembered for his struggles in the name of true democracy
