Venezuela is reaffirming, this Sunday, May 25, its sovereignty over Guiana Essequiba in response to the mandate of the Venezuelan people who, on December 3, 2023, demanded that this space be constituted as the 24th state of our country, said the Minister of Defense, G/J Vladimir Padrino López.
In statements made after exercising his right to vote, he stressed that Venezuela is not threatening or pointing rifles at Guyana, on the contrary, we are exercising sovereignty over this territory that historically belongs to us.
“We are reaffirming our sovereignty, that our struggle is in all political and diplomatic spaces, to reaffirm our sovereignty in that territory that has historically belonged to Venezuela. In Guiana Essequiba, the electoral process is taking place in perfect peace, in perfect harmony.”, he stressed while expressing the willingness of the National Government to, in accordance with the provisions of the Geneva Agreement, achieve a practical agreement on the territorial dispute.
In this regard, he stressed that no country, multilateral organization, or foreign political leader can tell Venezuela that it cannot hold elections in that territory. “We are not pointing our rifles at Guyana, these elections are an act of sovereignty,” he said in response to threats from the Irfan Ali government to imprison those who participate in this electoral process.
