The sectoral vice-president of Communication and Culture, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, said that the National Bicentennial Reading Plan marks the beginning of an accompanying route for families affected by the earthquakes of June 24. “This plan is a kind of magic box that contains six books: two for children, two for teenagers and two for adults,” he said.

Pérez Pirela explained that the copies will be distributed during July and August in the camps installed in the country and that the program will then reach schools and communes, in addition to pointing out that this initiative is part of the national reconstruction process promoted by President Delcy Rodríguez.

“Reconstruction must also be of the soul, it must be spiritual, and what better path than to undertake it with these books on the history of our Liberator Simon Bolivar,” he said.

The spokesperson indicated that the collection covers episodes that cover the life of the Liberator from his childhood to his role in the Panamanian Amphictyonic Congress, so that these materials will be used in reading circles inside the shelters, as well as in community activities. “We are telling the story of none other than the Liberator Simon Bolivar, who became the greatest in history,” he said.

Pérez Pirela stressed that the deployment of the plan is being implemented jointly between the Sectorial Vice Presidency for Communication and Culture, the Bicentennial Presidential Commission, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education, so this weekend reading days will be activated in different camps in the country to accompany the affected communities. “It's a joint effort to restore, heal and nourish the battered souls of Venezuelans after the double earthquake,” he said.
