As part of the celebration of the Portugal-Venezuela Business Forum, the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion of Portugal, Manuel Castro Almeida, ratified his country's commitment to the stability, recovery and development of the South American nation, highlighting the deep cultural, human and commercial relations that historically unite them.
During his speech, he confirmed the willingness of Portuguese companies to contribute to the modernization of the Venezuelan economy.
He also especially thanked the presence of the President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, describing her participation as a clear sign of the importance that Venezuela attaches to bilateral relations with Portugal.
The representative of the Portuguese Government highlighted Venezuela's economic projections, pointing out that the estimates of international organizations such as the United Nations point to a 6.5% growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by the year 2026.
He emphasized that challenges continue especially in key areas such as housing and the productive apparatus.
In this regard, Castro Almeida expressed Portugal's full willingness to collaborate in the economic modernization of Venezuela, making available the experience and technological capacity of its companies in strategic sectors such as the food industry, health, technological services and tourism.
On the other hand, the Portuguese minister expressed his deep solidarity with the Venezuelan people after the devastating earthquakes that occurred on June 24, which caused significant human losses, damage to infrastructure and affected thousands of families.
In this regard, he asserted that Portugal followed this tragedy closely and responded by sending 23 tons of humanitarian aid to support the affected areas, as well as personnel to help with the rescue.
“For decades, thousands of Portuguese people entered Venezuela and have developed commercial activities, generated employment and actively participated in the country's economic growth, and that's where our bonds of friendship and respect are born,” he said.
