Portuguesa began harvesting more than 200,000 hectares of corn

More than 200,000 hectares of corn corresponding to winter planting began to be harvested in the Portuguese state, with the largest area concentrated in the municipalities of Turén, Esteller and Santa Rosalía.

The authorities maintain supervision and technical support operations in productive units, silos and agro-industries, in order to guarantee support and safety for corn producers at all stages of the production process, from harvesting to receiving and processing the cereal, reported the Última Noticias portal.

The director of the Territorial Unit of Agriculture (UTA) in Portuguese, Lucidia Ruiz, is leading institutional support visits to agro-industrial centers in the state, in order to strengthen, monitor and articulate productive capacities to successfully consolidate this year's winter harvest.

In Portuguesa, the Grain Harvest Route 2026 was also installed, through the teamwork of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zone (ZODI) 33, the Institute for Integral Agricultural Health (INSAI) and the agricultural office, with the objective of ensuring the safety of the producer and their harvest during the mobilization of the field to the collection centers.

For his part, the governor of the entity, Primitivo Cedeño, highlighted the deployment of machinery and personnel in rural areas, stressing that state production will supply the national demand for pre-cooked flour.

“That's what Portuguesa represents: a field that produces, an industry that transforms and work that feeds,” he said.

Farmers ask the agro-industry and the National Executive to set conditions and prices in line with the production costs of both corn and paddy rice.

In the case of the corn harvest, the proposal of the Confederation of Associations of Agricultural Producers of Venezuela (Fedeagro) is to keep as a floor price the references of the previous cycle: 0.36 dollars per kilo of white corn and 0.33 dollars per kilo of yellow corn, canceled in foreign exchange and with the possibility of upward adjustments.

Representing the corn sector, Berno Stanic, director of the union, stated that the request has already been formally made and seeks to protect the final consumer without sacrificing the producer's profitability.
