The president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, awarded the “Hero of Venezuela” award this Saturday to public servants, for their commitment, courage and dedication during the days following the double earthquake of last June 24.

“It is an honor for me as president in charge of addressing you today at this significant event accompanied by the advice of vice-presidents, governors and mayors who, from the first minute of the occurrence of this tragedy, the national, regional and local government was activated within minutes. I have nothing but words of thanks. I've been working tirelessly since day one of the tragedy. I recognize that you have worked tirelessly; you go to La Guaira at dawn and there is a public official in uniform and without uniform,” said the president during the activity.

In this regard, Rodríguez rejected the discrediting campaigns, initiated in right-wing media and social networks, which seek to hide the work that public officials have done to help the population of La Guaira.

“Our story is heroic, and that's why under this circumstance you haven't fainted. I know that many civil servants lost family members and we accompanied them, and I know that you have put aside your pain to accompany our people,” he said.

The president also indicated that the National Government, together with the people, are still working not only to recover the coastal entity but also to “build something new”. “Let's build together the reborn Venezuela,” he stressed.
