The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted this Thursday the legacy of the distinguished José Vicente Rangel, “a central figure in Venezuelan politics and communication.”

Through his Telegram channel, the head of state recalled him “with deep affection and gratitude”. “I was fortunate to be very close to him: as a deputy, when he was Vice President of the Republic, and then, when I was chancellor, he became my daily advisor. José Vicente was always by Commander Chávez's side and then by my side. Their deep loyalty was always palpable,” he said.

“Until the last day he lived, he supported me, sending me confidential writings, letters, alerts and critiques. José Vicente was a great window for Venezuelans to learn about Commander Chávez's thinking and project,” he added.

He stressed that Rangel was “a leader who since the 1960s raised the flags of the left, the revolution and the Fatherland. His legacy marked a historic era in social communication.”
