The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
Nicolás Maduro, recalled this Tuesday the day that Pope John Paul II
declared José Gregorio Hernández Venerable.
“We commemorate 38 years since the decree of Pope John Paul II in
which he declared Dr. José G. Hernández 'Venerable'; in life the humblest of God's
servants, eternal 'Doctor of the Poor', now Blessed of the
Venezuelan People and on the road to holiness,” said the Prime President through his account on the social network X.
On January 16, 1986, Pope John Paul II proclaimed the
Venezuelan doctor of medicine as Venerable, a title that placed him on the second to
last step on the path to his canonization by the Catholic Church.
