The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, recalled this Tuesday his first meeting with the Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez, in the Yare prison.

“As I remember the paths and the struggles, today I bring to the present the living memory of that #16Dic of 1993: the day I went with a group of union and youth leaders to the Yare prison, where I shook hands with the giant Hugo Chávez for the first time,” wrote the head of state on his Telegram channel.

He noted that this group already knew him from his messages and writings that came out of prison, “but seeing him in person, I was impressed. He greeted us and said: 'Guys, where do you come from? Don't leave without talking to me'”, Commander Chávez recalled what Commander Chávez told them first.

“The Commander, despite having an intense schedule, kept us waiting and summoned us to his cell around 4 in the afternoon. There, we sat down and he spoke endlessly about the Bolivarian project, the future, the civic-military union and the need to bring Bolivar into the 21st century with all its values and its Bolivarian ideal. I was always amazed by that human character. I levitated out of there, without a doubt,” he said.

The Dignitary highlighted the impact of knowing his thinking and his person, which remains “as vivid and powerful as it was 32 years ago. Long live the historical memory of Commander Chávez!” , he said.
