The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
Nicolás Maduro, recalled this Wednesday the historic meeting of the giants
Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro, who met for the first time in Havana,
Cuba, on December 13, 1994, after the civic military rebellion of 1992 that changed the course of Venezuelan politics.
“It is 29 years since the first visit of our
Commander Chávez to Cuba, a fact that meant the beginning of a close bond of
cooperation and brotherhood between both peoples, and a new hope for those of
us who hope to see the union of nations dreamed of by the Liberator Simon
Bolivar realized,” said the Venezuelan dignitary through his account on the social network X.
In his closing speech at the 8th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance
for the Peoples of Our America, on December 15, 2009, Commander
Chávez recalled the important moment, that fraternal embrace he received from
Fidel: “Dawn began with that embrace,” he said.
That historic embrace was transformed into the hope of the
peoples of our America and also of the peoples of the world, who see today in
the Bolivarian and Cuban Revolutions, in the legacy of Hugo Chávez and in Fidel Castro's
example of dignity, a guiding light to fight for a world
with social justice, inclusion and solidarity.
