The deputy to the National Assembly, Jessica Carolina de León and her daughter, lost their lives in the state of La Guaira during the double earthquake that shook the country on June 24, confirmed the president of the Venezuelan Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez.
During this Tuesday's plenary session of the AN, Rodríguez praised the help and willingness of all the deputies elected by this entity, who, at the time of the earthquake, went to help with the search and rescue work.
In this regard, he placed special emphasis on the parliamentarian, María Gabriel Sosa, who lost her home and “saved her life because she was at a meeting of the judicial nominations committee.”
He also mourned the death of 7 directors of the governorate of La Guaira. “Governor Alejandro Terán's house was destroyed, yet he went out to help the people, to work,” he said.
On the other hand, the parliamentarian reiterated the call for national unity in the face of the tragedy and demanded that the country's political actors put aside polarization. “This is not a time for polarization to persist, for petty exploitation, for arrogance to appear. These are times to reach out, to put what we are in our human condition to care for brothers who not only suffered the rigors of material loss,” he said.
In the same way, the president of the National Assembly called on the community not to replicate false information that only helps to cause more pain and anguish in the affected population.
