Rehabilitation of the bridge and channeling of the Chama River in Mérida progresses 94%

The rehabilitation of the bridge, embankment and canalization of the Chama River, in the San Isidro sector, San Rafael parish of the Rangel municipality, Mérida state, is 94% complete, in order to guarantee the protection of communities and the strengthening of road infrastructure.

The intervention is part of the Risk Mitigation Plan 2026 and has included the complete channeling of one kilometer of the downstream riverbed, the construction of gabions and cyclopean concrete walls in strategic areas, the demolition of a road to expand part of the road and the installation of reinforcing steel in the direction of Barinas-Mérida.

In addition, the technical teams carry out the extension and replacement of the road, the installation of fenders, railings and the formwork of protective screens to ensure safe traffic through this important road artery.

These tasks directly benefit more than 840 Andean families; the national Government affirms its commitment to consolidating major projects that reduce risks due to river events and guarantee optimal routes for the country's development.
