The sectoral vice-president of Planning, Ricardo Menéndez, reported on the progress of the comprehensive updating of the cartography of La Guaira, as part of the transition plan from the containment phase of the emergency to a new phase of transformation and territorial planning.

During his participation in the aerial photogrammetric drone survey carried out in the Punta Care-Anare sector, Naiguatá parish, in the case of La Guaira, Menéndez pointed out that it is not about rebuilding, it is about building the future.

Menéndez stressed that this new information collected will allow us to orient the location of future works and buildings according to geographical conditions.

He also explained that the new planning should consider the behavior of basins, watercourses, alluvial cones and seismic risk areas. “There are things that probably won't have to be where they were, that need to be kept away from risk areas. You have to be away from watercourses, you have to be away from alluvial cones, you have to be away from seismic risks,” he said.

Until now, the teams have worked in sectors such as Naiguatá, Camurí Grande, Tanaguarena, Caraballeda, Los Corales, Camurí Chico, Macuto, La Guaira, Maiquetía, Playa Grande and Catia La Mar.

The aerophotogrammetric survey aims to update the cartography drawn up between December 1999 and January 2000, after the landslides that affected the state of La Guaira. These mapping studies contemplate the survey of the entire strip between Los Caracas and Las Salinas.
