Salvador Allende School of Medicine: Vital Training Space for the Latin American People

On April 15, 2007, Commander Hugo Chávez inaugurated the Dr. Salvador Allende Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), in Caracas, a proposal that was born in Cuba, devised by the then president Fidel Castro.
The ELAM emerged as a result of the integrationist agreement, Sandino's commitment, which promotes collaboration and political, economic and social complementation of Latin American countries, from all latitudes committed to maintaining health as a fundamental right of peoples.
It constitutes a vital space for the integration of Peoples, nations and governments, committed to contributing to the training of comprehensive community doctors and doctors, with high scientific, technical, ethical and humanistic training, with a deep social vocation and integrated into their own communities.
The men and women trained in this house of studies are trained professionals with high scientific, humanistic and supportive training, able to act as modifiers of change, towards sustainable human development.
