Screening of “The Fish That Smokes” in 4K overwhelmed the National Cinematheque

With massive attendance that overwhelmed the spaces of the National Cinematheque, in the Museum of Fine Arts (MBA), the screening in 4K quality of “The Fish That Smokes”, an emblematic production by the renowned Venezuelan filmmaker Román Chalbaud, was screened in 4K quality.

The event was attended by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Alejandro López, accompanied by the president of the institution, Rosa Raydán, in addition to the president of the National Autonomous Center for Cinematography (CNAC), Román Chamorro; the president of Amazonia Films and the Villa del Cine, Vladimir Sosa Sarabia, and representatives of guilds and cultural groups.

The president of the Cinemateca, Rosa Raydán, dedicated a few words to honor the legacy of director Chalbaud three years after his physical departure.

“That a filmmaker who made this amazing film 50 years ago and many others is still so current, that people are so interested and moving so much, is, honestly, exciting. For those of us who love Venezuelan cinema, it's truly a very, very resounding demonstration of love and passion,” he said.

The special program prepared for the occasion included the premiere of the trailer for the new version of “The Fish That Smokes”, directed by Luis Fernández; a first preview of the trailer for “Muñequita Linda”, a posthumous film by Román Chalbaud, shared by its executive producer, Pily Galán, as well as a 10-minute documentary short film about the complex process of digital restoration of the Venezuelan film classic carried out by the technical team and conservation.
