This Thursday, the general secretary of the Association of Caribbean States (AEC), Noemí Espinoza Madrid, arrived in the city of Caracas to participate in the 3rd Meeting of the Sargasso Subcommission of the AEC, to be held this Friday, September 18, in Venezuela.

Secretary Espinoza began her agenda with a working meeting at the “Antonio José de Sucre” Yellow House, where she was received by the Deputy Minister for the Caribbean, Carlos Pérez, and Ambassador Raúl Li Causi.

Both authorities extended a cordial welcome to the secretary, on behalf of Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia González, and spoke about the role of Venezuela in the AEC and its regional news.

The 3rd Meeting of the Sargasso Subcommission of the AEC will be constituted as a high-level multilateral strategic space aimed at confronting the ecological and socio-economic crisis generated by the massive arrival of this macroalgae to the Caribbean coasts.

International delegations, scientists and government authorities will coordinate joint action plans, funding for mitigation, technology transfer and the development of initiatives for the industrial use of sargassum, promoting scientific research and climate resilience throughout the region.
