The South African National Civic Organization (SANCO), the country's leading community organization, stands in solidarity with the peace-loving people of Venezuela.
Below is the Communiqué from the South African organization:
SANCO will never condone the constant harassment, threats and abuses against the people and government of Venezuela by the United States of America (USA). United States) and its president, Donald J. Trump. The president of the United States seems to believe that he lives in some Byzantine era, when emperors ruled the world by decree while being allowed to steal and plunder.
Venezuela and its people have demonstrated courage, resilience and strength to face intimidation from the United States. Many in the West, including Western Europe, claim not to share Trump's worldview; however, they are equally dismissive of Venezuela's democratically elected president, Nicolás Maduro. Without any evidence or proof, they call him corrupt and claim that there is no democracy in Venezuela. These opportunistic views only seek to allow a despot like Trump to act as he pleases!
The Nobel Peace Committee even went so far as to award an opposition leader, María Machado, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
It is clear that the West, led by Trump, is on track to overthrow the democratically elected and popular government of Maduro. Even more obvious is that Trump has his sights set on Venezuela's crude oil reserves, which are the largest in the world. Most U.S. oil refineries require the heavy crude oil found in Venezuela, rather than medium and light crude oil from the Middle East.
As SANCO, we will not be silent or allow the people of Venezuela to be intimidated. They should know that we are with them and we stand firm in our support for their government and people.
SANCO calls on the democratic government of South Africa to issue similar statements of support for Venezuela to all multilateral and international organizations and forums.
