Successful planting of 580,000 hectares of cereals is progressing in the face of a contingency due to the El Niño phenomenon

The successful planting of 580,000 hectares of cereals in the national territory guaranteed the continuity of the production cycle so far this year in the face of the climatic challenges caused by the El Niño phenomenon, in a crop that covers three fundamental sectors distributed in 256,000 hectares of yellow corn, 243,000 hectares of white corn and 84,000 hectares of rice.

In addition, general agricultural production registered an increase of more than 5%, with the animal sector standing out with an increase of 5.14% and plant production with 2.26%.

In this regard, the commitment of agribusiness, the work of small and medium-sized producers and the application of good agronomic practices made it possible to overcome the dry corridor in producing states such as Portuguesa, Guárico, Anzoátegui and Cojedes.

Pedro Malaver, president of Agropatria, said that “the application of early adaptation methodologies and meteorological monitoring together with Inameh and Ciifen made it possible to overcome the drought period and protect crop development.”

He indicated that supervisory operations are being maintained in production units and silos, estimating a collection of 2.5 million metric tons at the end of the winter cycle.
