On January 19, 1961, the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Park was inaugurated, which was designed by the Brazilian landscape architect and architect Roberto Burle Marx and associates Fernando Tábora and John Stoddart, as well as by the botanist Leandro Aristeguieta.
During its creation, it had the name of Rómulo Gallegos. In 1983, the name was changed to Parque Rómulo Betancourt and finally in 2002 Commander Hugo Chávez named it Parque Generalissimo “Francisco de Miranda” in honor of the Venezuelan hero.
