Uslar Pietri: One of the most important contemporary writers in the Castilian language (+Christmas)

On May 16, 1906, the writer and politician Arturo Uslar Pietri, one of the most important intellectuals of the 20th century in Venezuela and the world, was born in Caracas.
During his successful literary career, the novels The Red Spears, The Way of El Dorado, Office of the Dead and Robinson's Island, the short story book Thirty Men and Their Shadows and the essays Summary of Venezuelan Economy and Letters and Men of Venezuela stand out.
In the political area, he served as Minister of Education, in 1939, during the presidency of Eleazar López Contreras and as Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, in the government of Isaías Medina Angarita.
He died in his hometown on February 26, 2001, at 95 years of age.
