The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, and the ambassador of the Russian Federation accredited to Caracas, Sergey Mélik-Bagdasárov, presented this Monday to the Liberator Simon Bolivar in the National Pantheon, on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which occurred on March 14, 1945.

“81 years later, we see a complex world, where there are many challenges that can only be addressed through cooperation, through the Charter of the United Nations. Russia and Venezuela, two sister peoples, two peoples who are strategic partners, partners in the Charter of the United Nations, partners in the Group of Friends in defense of this letter; and who advocate for a multicentric and multipolar world. We will continue to work together,” said the Venezuelan foreign minister.

Symbolically, amidst the glorious notes of the national anthems of both peoples and accompanied by representatives of the diplomatic corps, Gil and Mélik-Bagdasárov ratified the bonds of friendship and cooperation that experienced a strategic impulse starting in 2000, when the commander and then president, Hugo Chávez, guided State policies with the purposes and principles of the Global South to actively defend the right of peoples to self-determination.

Since then, Caracas and Moscow have maintained a high-level strategic partnership, consolidated in 2025 with new cooperation agreements in areas such as defense, science and technology, as well as mutual political exchange and support in international forums.
