Venezuela and the Dominican Republic agree to move forward in normalizing diplomatic relations

The Government of Venezuela and the Dominican Republic began a process of normalizing diplomatic and consular relations, as part of a process of dialogue initiated between the authorities of both countries.

According to a statement from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, this process will include, in a first stage, the adoption of the necessary measures for the re-establishment of consular services and, subsequently, the move towards the normalization of diplomatic relations.

The Governments of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Dominican Republic report that, as a result of the dialogue held between the two parties, they have agreed to begin a process of gradual normalization of their diplomatic and consular relations, based on a road map that will be developed by common agreement.

The implementation of this road map will include, in a first stage, the adoption of the necessary measures for the re-establishment of consular services and, subsequently, the move towards the normalization of diplomatic relations, according to the schedule that both parties agree on.

This decision responds to the shared interest of strengthening institutional channels of communication, for the benefit of the nationals of both countries and the historic bonds of friendship that unite Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.

Both Governments reaffirm their willingness to lead this process through dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to the principles of international law.
