This Thursday, in the framework of the 39th Regional Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Latin America and the Caribbean, which is taking place in Brasilia, Brazil, Venezuela shared with the countries of the region the advances achieved in terms of food security, productive recovery and strengthening of its national agricultural system.
The Minister of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Julio León Heredia, stressed that the country has made significant progress in the recovery of the productive apparatus, despite the impact of more than a thousand unilateral coercive measures that have limited access to inputs, technologies and financing for the development of the agricultural sector.
In this regard, he stressed that Venezuela currently produces 96% of the food it consumes, which evidences the progressive strengthening of national production and the commitment of the Bolivarian Government to food sovereignty. He also indicated that the indicators of undernourishment have been reduced to 5.9%, while the nutritional deficit stands at 3%, reflecting advances in social protection and food supply policies.
León Heredia pointed out that these achievements respond to the policies promoted within the framework of the Economic Recovery Program, under the leadership of the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, aimed at strengthening domestic production and guaranteeing the right to food of the Venezuelan people.
During the regional meeting, Venezuela also reiterated its commitment to multilateralism, cooperation between peoples and working together with FAO to advance the eradication of hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Inspired by Bolivarian thinking and Commander Hugo Chávez, the Venezuelan delegation reaffirmed the validity of its legacy and the conviction that only through national production, rural work and the organization of the people will it be possible to consolidate true independence and food sovereignty.
