Representatives of the National Center for Development and Research in Telecommunications Foundation (CENDIT) and the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC), entities attached to the Ministry of People's Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT), participated in different international meetings on radiation safety in Latin America and the Caribbean.

One of the meetings was held in Montevideo, Uruguay, where the Venezuelan delegation took part in the Regional Training on the Safety of Non-Nuclear Radioactive Material in Transportation, in which representatives from nine other countries in the region participated.

The meeting, reported on the social networks of the Scientific and Technological Pole, focused on strengthening safety protocols to prevent and respond to possible risks during the transfer of non-nuclear radioactive materials, taking into account the standards of the Nuclear Safety Collection of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

During the technical presentations, Samuel Perozo, from CENDIT, and Aarón Ascanio, from IVIC, presented solutions developed in the country, including specialized containers for the protection of Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources (FRSD), an automated reporting system for material monitoring and national joint response plans between different government agencies.

The second meeting was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where a delegation from Venezuela participated in the School of Radiological Emergency Management in Latin America and the Caribbean, in an activity focused on the development of Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) programs.

On this day, which lasted two weeks, Carlelinés Gavidia, head of the Communications Electronics Unit at CENDIT and a specialist in Nuclear Safety, together with Luis Dávila, from the Atomic Energy Directorate, participated in drills, conferences and training activities related to the protection of first responders and the management of radioactive waste.
