As part of the days that are part of the Mass Training Plan in Popular Planning, the discussion on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence was held.

From the Venezuelan School of Planning Foundation (FEVP), on a day marked by mass participation and critical analysis of new technologies, the Sectorial Vice President of Planning, Ricardo Menéndez, presented the advances and challenges facing the country in the face of the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on contemporary society.

Menéndez highlighted that today's meeting (March 19) was held with the focus that technology should serve national development and not citizen manipulation, with the participation of almost 20,000 people, “reaching a historic cumulative figure of 6,176,000 participants” in the processes of debate and public consultation.

During his speech, Menéndez emphasized that one of the central issues on the agenda are the risks inherent in the use of social networks and the creation of algorithms that strengthen false news.

The Sectorial Vice President called for building “social vaccines” to protect critical thinking. “If you are a prisoner of a social network or an algorithm, your freedom to think and to serve is simply being restricted,” Menéndez said.

The Venezuelan State has begun an unprecedented process of technological adaptation to respond to large volumes of data. In this regard, it was reported that the Homeland Plan has processed more than 500,000 proposals generated from the grassroots using Artificial Intelligence and Big Data tools.

“This process of systematization allows the flow of information from popular power to be converted into efficient public policies, always guaranteeing technological sovereignty and the development of its own algorithms for decision-making,” he said.
