As part of the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirmed its political will to confront illicit trafficking in substances.

Through an intervention, the National Anti-Drug Superintendent, M/G Danny Ferrer Sandrea, highlighted the strengthening of the country's prevention and control capacities to neutralize criminal organizations that attempt to use the national territory as a bridge for drug trafficking.

During his participation, M/G Ferrer Sandrea reported that Venezuela reached a record figure in 2025 when it seized nearly 66 tons of drugs, representing an increase of 64.44% compared to the previous year.

This record is the highest in the last two decades, and was possible thanks to the implementation of sovereign strategies and technical cooperation with at least eleven States, allowing the interception of important shipments through the exchange of information.

The Venezuelan delegation emphasized that its anti-drug policy is based on a humanistic approach and the principle of common but differentiated responsibility. In addition, significant success was reported in reducing demand, managing to preemptively address more than 2.5 million people. These actions are carried out in strict compliance with international conventions and respect for the self-determination of peoples, prioritizing citizen security and public health.

The CND is the principal policymaking body of the UN in the area of drug control. Created by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it oversees the implementation of international drug treaties and seeks to address the global drug problem through cooperation. It is comprised of 53 Member States, elected by Ecosoc, and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria.
