The Bolivarian Government reaffirmed that it is the sole responsibility of the Venezuelan State to conduct, plan and execute the process of recovery, reconstruction and integral development of the areas affected by the double earthquake that occurred in our country on June 24.

In a statement published by the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, he emphasized that the National Executive has all the institutional, technical and productive capacities necessary to deal with the contingency, thanking them for international solidarity and that only if necessary in the exercise of their sovereign powers, will it establish cooperation alliances with international public and private companies.

He also clarified that to date no coordination is planned with the elected government of Colombia for the reconstruction of the areas affected by the double earthquake.

This statement was issued after statements issued by Abelardo de la Espriella, elected president of Colombia, who expressed intentions to intervene in the recovery processes of areas affected by earthquakes in Venezuelan territory.

Below is the full text of the statement:

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has observed with surprise the recent statements made by Mr. Abelardo de la Espriella, the elected president of the Republic of Colombia, in which it intends to attribute extensive powers to the recovery and reconstruction of the areas affected by the earthquakes of last June 24.

In this regard, the Venezuelan Government reaffirms that it is the sole responsibility of the Venezuelan State to conduct, plan and execute the process of recovery, reconstruction and comprehensive development of the areas affected by the past double earthquake that occurred in our country. Venezuela has activated all its national capacities, including State institutions, the national industry, its public and private companies, as well as the technical and professional talent necessary to carry out this process.

Venezuela is grateful for the many expressions of solidarity and support received from governments, international organizations and sister peoples. If necessary, the Venezuelan State, in the exercise of its sovereign powers, will establish cooperative alliances with international public and private companies that contribute to the work of recovery and reconstruction, which will join the efforts of the Venezuelan people and their Government. For this reason, it makes it very clear that, to date, no coordination is planned with the elected government of Colombia.
