On March 18, 2007, Commander Hugo Chávez launched the Villanueva Mission, in honor of the Venezuelan architect Carlos Villanueva, also to guarantee urban development for the People.

“The Villanueva Mission, transformation of space, of urban space, also of rural spaces, neighborhoods, housing estates,” said the Supreme Commander during the program Aló Presidente number 276 from Petare parish, Miranda state.

This mission was one of Commander Chávez's first initiatives to guarantee decent housing for the Venezuelan people.

Thanks to this mission, we built: The Urban Development and Integration of Lecuna Avenue (Caracas), Twin City Ojeda (Zulia), Belén City (Miranda), Lossada City (Zulia), Brisas de San Genaro Urbanization (Portuguese), Camino de los Indios, currently Caribia City, (between Caracas and Vargas), Altos de La Rinconada, current Cacique Tiuna (Caracas) and Mariche City in Fila de Mariche (Miranda).

In 2011, the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution created the Great Venezuela Housing Mission, which has historically been one of the most important social programs in the country.
