The Somali government reported that 120 people have died as a result of the floods caused by the “El Niño” phenomenon.
“In these floods, we have seen 120 lives lost across the country, mainly in the Bay, Gedo and Jubba regions. This includes several who died on a capsized boat while trying to escape the Al Shabaab group,” said Mohamud Moalin Abdulle , representative of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SODMA).
In this regard, SODMA indicated that more than 3 million citizens will receive humanitarian aid from Russia.
“This batch includes purely food products, which will be distributed throughout the country (...). About 555,000 families, or about 3,300,000 citizens, will receive help,” he said.
According to what was published on the TELESUR web portal, Somalis are also expecting humanitarian supplies from China.
