This Tuesday, the magnate and founder of the opposition newspaper Apple Daily, Jimmy Lai, pleaded not guilty after endangering China's national security.
It is worth noting that Lai conspired against his own country through the media to call for violence.
In this regard, prosecutor Anthony Chau testified before the court that magnate used his media business under the pretext of protecting “democracy” and asked governments such as the United States to “sanction, block or undertake hostile activities” against Hong Kong and China.
In addition to other evidence presented against him, Lai met with the then Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence, and Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, in Washington to impose his agenda against the Asian Giant.
The defendant also expected that former President Donald Trump would pressure Beijing with sanctions not to approve the National Security Act, a legal instrument that prohibits secession, subversion of state power, terrorist activities and foreign interference.
According to the RT website, on August 10, 2020, Hong Kong police arrested Lai on charges of colluding with foreign forces, which is a crime under the new national security law.
