AMLO on closing the border between Mexico and the United States: It's part of the campaign to win votes

This Tuesday, January 16, President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured that the threats of the Republican, Donald Trump, to close the borders between the two countries are only part of his campaign to try to win votes.

“It's part of the campaigns in the United States; a lot of things are said (...) to try to win votes. However, the border between Mexico and the United States cannot be closed,” López Obrador said in statements offered to the press, according to information from Última Noticias.

He also stressed that crossing the border is essential for economic and social integration. “Imagine closing the border one day, which means a loss for American and Mexican companies, for both nations,” he said.

In addition, the president assured that the most important thing, whoever is the winner of the American elections, is to maintain a good relationship between the two countries.
