This Tuesday, the National Assembly (AN) unanimously approved the Draft Agreement granting the Honors of the National Pantheon to the Hero of the Homeland Brigadier General Domingo Antonio Sifontes, in accordance with the provisions of article 187 number 15 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Sifontes never departed from the defense of Venezuela. Their only mission was to defend their homeland,” said Deputy Alexis Rodríguez Cabello, who presented the Draft Agreement to the plenary.

He recalled that General Sifontes managed to remove the British from the Venezuelan Cuyuní territory while urging them to follow the example of this hero and to defend the country's sovereignty “under whatever circumstances; there is nothing more powerful than a united people and our Homeland is forever and forever respected! Long live our general!

For his part, the parliamentarian Jesús Suárez Chourio called for honoring that son of the Fatherland “because he never strayed from national interests and sentiment”.

Domingo Antonio Sifontes was born in Cantaura, Barcelona, in 1834 and died in Tumremo, Bolivar state, on January 9, 1912. He came from an agricultural family that settled in the town of Tumremo where, affectionately, he was named “The Intellectual Llanero”, due to his passion for reading since his youth.
