The Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Habitability inspected the piles that support the structures of the port of La Guaira, as part of the technical studies being carried out after the double earthquake of last June 24.

Civil engineer Jesús Vielma explained that, based on this evaluation, recommendations will be issued on the depth analyses that should be performed on submerged columns.

“These studies will make it possible to determine the degree of real and structural vulnerability of both columns and buildings,” said the expert.

Piles are deep structural columns that lean into the seabed to support the weight of piers, platforms and bridges, so their condition is decisive for the safety of port facilities.
