Cabello: In the Fourth Republic, the newspapers here were centers of extortion against citizens

The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, described the role of the media on April 11, 2002, as “terrible”.

Cabello recalled how in the Fourth Republic the media functioned as a fourth power, capable of placing Heads of State.

“The newspapers here were centers of extortion against citizens, (...) many working journalists
used the media to extort money from people and after they said anything barbaric about someone, there was no way to push them back,” he added.

The leader of the red awning assured that, after 24 years, the media still believe that they can manipulate the People, but indicated that they know the truth.
